"It's Christmas Time, Here Again"
Dr. Rox Remember When?
Article #178: December 2025
By: RLSchwinden aka MrZerr0

Well, here we are again Xmass 2025, and with this it marks my 40th Annual Xmass Radio Show, but this year starring my son Oblieon, his 1st whole show appearance. I can vividly remember Christmas of 1969, my family (Carol, Bill and Michelle) went to my sister's Godmother's Darlene L. house for Christmas, we walked in and there was Darlene sitting in a rocking chair in front of the Christmas tree with a cup of hot cocoa, with Christmas music playing on her record player. I thought "Why, don;t we have Christmas music playing in our house" it made quite an impact on me. So in the early 80s I started collecting Christmas songs by Pop- Rock artists until I had enough to make a 1 hour cassette, and so my annual Xmass Show was born. So here is a run down of this year's show.

Mr. Zero's PsychoGello Show 2025
Episode #327 (21 Dec 2025)

"All I Want For Christmas Is My 2 Front Teeth" - 1947
Danny Kaye and The Andew Sisters
David Daniel Kaminsky 18 January 1911: New York City – 3 March 1987
The Andrew Sisters formed in 1925 in Minneapolis: LaVerne Sophia Andrews (1911–1967), soprano Maxene Anglyn Andrews (1916–1995), and mezzo-soprano Patricia Marie Andrews (1918–2013)

My story here would be in 1994 in S. Des Moines, IA. my friend Jason C. came to me and asked "Hey, you meet a lot of celebrities" I replied "Yes, that's true, why?" JC "Well, I am a huge Danny Kaye fan and I would like to do some sort of tribute to him" I said "Ok, and... ?" JC "So how would I get in touch with Danny to get his approval?" I responded "I don't know, a medium, I guess?" JC "A medium, what do you mean, why would I need that?" me "Well, he's been dead for 7 years, so I guess you're not that big of a fan" (true story)

"Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" -1949
Gene Autry: Orvon Grover "Gene" Autry 29 September 1907; Tioga, TX – 2 October 1998.

My story for this song, when Mr. Zer0's opened back in 2009, Bill Lindsey of 'Impaler' came into Mr. Zer0's and asked for this Vinyl Record Album. I was stunned, "But, you're in Impaler?" BL "I collect all kinds of music" I found 2 for him within a few months, his son Zach bought them for him.

"Dasher With The Light Upon His Tail" -1962
Kitty Wells: Ellen Muriel Deason: 30 August 1919; Nashville – 16 July 2012.

My story on this one, an old customer of mine John V. when I worked in Burnsville, loved these old traditional country artists. Now everyone has heard of "Rudolph" however I had never heard this song before.

"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" -1963
Andy Williams: Howard Andrew Williams: 3 December 1927: Wall Lake, IA. – 25 September 2012.

This story; about 15 years ago, or so. I saw "The Williams Brothers: Christmas TV Show" I thought it was a really good show over all. Back in 1993 in S. Des Moines, IA. Andy was handing out jugs of water to the victims of the "Floods OF '93" in that area, it was here i was able to his autograph on an Williams/Osmonds album in my collection.

"Go Tell It On The Mountain" 1964
Frank Sinatra: Francis Albert Sinatra 12 December 1915; Hoboken, NJ. – May 14, 1998.

This story is: I myself am a bigger Dean Martin fan, however Sinatra is wildly popular at Mr.Zer0's (a drop dead gorgeous woman stops by a couple times a year to buy his records) I thought it only fitting to play one of his songs. And the family legend goes when The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra (with Sinatra) performed in Sioux City, Iowa, on 14 January 1940, at the Skylon Ballroom, or when they did a radio broadcast of their variety show from Sioux City on 22 March 1942, my Great Aunt Helenka U. was in attendance, and was quoted as saying "So I went to the concert at the ballroom, and while I was there, their singer a very skinny handsome blue eyed man asked me to dance as he said I was the prettiest lady in the place, I am pretty sure it was that Sinatra fella"

"God King Wenceslas... etc" -1964
The Beatles: Formed in Liverpool, ENG. 1962 - 1970

As I have stated many, many times Mr. Zer0's Mascot was created by Jose Delbo, who worked on "Yellow Submarine" needless to say I am a huge Beatles Fan. I 1st heard The Beatles 1967 Xmas Record in 1980, I later found out they made 7 Xmas Singles from 1963 to 1969, then they were combined to make a LP Album. This particular song was made from 3 different sources at the Rising Star Studio.

"It's Christmas All Over The World" -1965
Sammy Davis Jr. Samuel George Davis Jr. (December 8, 1925; New York City – May 16, 1990

This story would be; as a kid I thought Sammy was cool, having recorded "Eye Of The Sparrow" the theme to the TV Show "Barretta" however in 1992 when Tiny Tim lived in Des Moines, IA. Tiny would often perform at the Holiday Inn South, there was a guy and his wife would usually attend, and he referred to himself as the "White" Sammy Davis as he bore a striking resemblance to Sammy. Also I saw a comedy skit (probably SNL) when an actor was impersonating Sammy and kept saying "Sha Boing Boing Boing" which for some reason I thought was hysterical.

"Jingle Bells" -1966
Dean Martin: Dean Martin: Dino Paul Crocetti; 7 June 1917; Steubenville, OH. – 25 December 1995.

As a kid I loved "Martin And Lewis" "My Friend Irma" being my favorite as well as "Sailor Beware" by this time though Dean had long since been solo and had his own TV Show: 1965 -1974. I liked the way he seemed so relaxed and cool. So I had to play one of his songs.

"Carol Of The Bells" - 1967
4 Seasons: Formed in Newark, NJ. in 1960.

I was never a big "Doo-Wop" fan, but my long time friend Larry S. goes on and on about the show "Jersey Boys" so I had to play one for Uncle Larry, besides I do love this song.

"I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day" -2018
The Monkees (Micky Dolenz): Form in L.A. Hollywood, CA. in 1965.

As I have written dozens of times before Mr. Zer0's name came from The Monkees TV Show Episode #52 from Feb 1968 "Devil And Peter Tork" Mr. Zer0 (Monte Landis) ran the pawn shop. I met Monte in Chicago in 1988 as he thought I was in Davy Jones' Band. I was able to get Micky Dolenz to sign my Monkees Gretsch (re-issue) Guitar in Clear Lake, IA. just last year.

"The Holy And The Ivy" -1958
Petula Clark: Sally "Petula" Clark 15 November 1932; Ewell, Surrey, ENG.

I heard this song in one of the many "A Christmas Carol" films I own in my film collection. I love the melody so I had to play this one. I do remember a story Davy Jones once told on Air on Des Moines Radio "The 1st record I ever bought was Petula Clark's 'Downtown' I didn't even own a record player, but I loved that song"

Well this sums it up my 40th Xmass show and the end of 2025. So tune in next year for another installment.
