No World Record But Probably One for the U.S.

Mobile gaming party held at John Rose OVAL in Roseville in a bid to go down in history.

Roseville failed today (Saturday) to set the record for the world's largest mobile gaming party.

According to a Guinness World Record official, the Roseville event attracted 240 people, short of the existing record of 316 people who simultaneously played mobile games on April 13, 2011 in Birmingham, England.

Still the verifier, Amanda Mochan, said the Roseville gaming party set the unofficial record for the largest party of its type in the United States.

"It was a good attempt," Mochan said of the event sponsored by the  Roseville Visitors Association.

The most popular mobile game was Angry Birds and many participants came wearing Angry Birds t-shirts. But other mobile games, such as Tetris, also qualified in the attempt at the world record.

Roseville Mayor Dan Roe, who played the Angry Birds, agreed that Roseville had made a good try at the world record. "It (the gaming party) got people out on a nice day, so you can't complain about that," he said.

Julie Wearn, Visitors Association executive director, indicated that setting the unofficial U.S. record was satisfying, noting the mobile gaming party was a chance to show off Roseville."

As a part of the event, the Visitors Association donated a computer lab to Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran School from Minnesota Computers for Schools.  Bloomington Living Hope was one of seven schools which submitted an essay about why it needed a new computer lab.  Participants voted for their favorite school during the record attempt.
