Poverty Rate Doubles in Roseville During Past Decade

Data comes from Census Bureau's American Community Survey.

The city of Roseville's poverty rate doubled from 2000 to 2010, according to data from a media report today.

While Roseville's overall population growth was flat, the city's number of people living below the poverty line rose from 4.2 percent in 2000 to an estimated 8.5 percent in 2010, according to a MinnPost report on suburban poverty in Minnesota.  The federal government defines the poverty level as $22,350 total annual income for a family of four.

The estimated per capita income in Roseville is $31,142.00.

Roseville isn't the only municipality dealing with a poverty rate increase. The poverty rate in Minnesota's suburban cities climbed to 7.6 percent in 2010, according to census numbers cited by MinnPost. That's an increase from 4 percent in 2000 and 5.8 percent in 2007.

Roseville's population saw essentially no change between 2000 and 2010, from 33,690 to 33,660, respectively.

Meanwhile, the percentage of Roseville residents that spend at least 30 percent of their income on housing is estimated to be 32.6 percent.
