Overall attendance in Roseville School District 623 for the start of the 2012-13 school year is pretty much flat compared with a year ago, according to a preliminary report presented this month to the School Board.

Total district attendance was 6,984 students at the start of this month, up 12 students compared with the start of 2011-12, according to district director of teaching and learning.

Olson-Skog attributed that drop to a slighty smaller district-wide kindergarten class this year compared with last year's record enrollment. This year's kindergarten class is 515 students, down from the record-high 589 of a year ago, he said.

Meanwhile, the district's enrollment for seventh and eighth grades is up 3.2 percent  and up 1.5 percent for the high school, grades 9 through 12, Olson-Skog reported.
