Fire Department seeks proposals for construction management services on fire station project.

The city of Roseville could move another step closer tonight towards consolidating its three fire stations into one new larger facility.
Administrative officials are set to ask City Council permission to seek proposals for construction management services for the fire station project.
In a memo to the Council, Roseville Fire Chief Tim O’Neill said securing a construction manager would enable the city to most efficiently develop and implement design plans for a new building and assist in securing architectural and engineering services for the project.

An ad hoc city committee recently recommended that Roseville consolidate its three stations into one centrally-located facility at the site of Fire Station No. 1, 2701 Lexington Ave., O’ Neill said. He recently said a new single station could be as large as 32,000 to 36,000 square feet at a ballpark price tag of $7 million.
The Building Facilities Needs Committee, in a 16-page report, said the city’s three existing fire stations have a myriad of maintenance issues, from mold and leaking roofs to outdated electrical and mechanical systems. The group recommends it would be more efficient to build one large fire station rather than remodel all three fire stations.

Once the city hires an architect or construction management firm to do preliminary drawings and come up with more firm project costs, “we hope in five to six months we will have a project that we can show the City Council, the community and the fire department as to how it would look, ” O’Neill recently said.
Currently, the Project Planning Team—a 20-member committee of citizens, current firefighters and retired firefighters—is the newest group helping the Fire Department with planning. It began its work in May.
