Roseville Council To Hold Utility Rate Hearing Monday Night

Council to consider substantial rate increase for 2012.

From Roseville City web site:

The Roseville City Council invites you to share your thoughts about the proposed 2012 utility rates. Please join the Council on Monday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at Roseville City Hall, 2660 Civic Center Dr, for a public hearing during the City Council meeting.

The City Council is considering a substantial increase in water and sewer rates beginning in 2012. A typical single-family homeowner would see a water and sewer bill increase of $25 to $40 per quarter.

An analysis has shown that the City has not been setting aside enough money to pay to replace aging water and sewer lines.

Most of Roseville’s water and sewer lines were installed in the 1960s and ‘70s. Generally, sewer lines last for about 50 to 80 years. Roseville will systematically replace this aging infrastructure over the next 30 years. The cost is estimated to be approximately $3.3 million per year in today’s dollars.

The City believes that by systematically replacing the utility infrastructure, we will minimize disruptions of water and sewer service and spread the financial burden over a longer time, making it more affordable.
