PHOTOS: Roseville Firefighters Give Old Home a House Warming

For newbie firefighters it's a chance to learn the ropes in a controlled fire training exercise.

The abandoned home at 2325 Dale St. in Roseville was destined to be razed as part of a city redevelopment plan which includes closing down the neighboriing Dale Street fire station.

So on Saturday, the Roseville Fire Department got the chance to give the old home a house warming of a different kind: It became the subject of a controlled-fire training exercise.

Roseville Fire Chief Tim O' Neill said the fire training exercise included handling fires in individual rooms, fire supression, ventilation, search and rescue and firefighting tactics.

About 55 firefighters took part in the training including 20 newer recruits who have joined the department within the last 18 months, O'Neill said.

"This training is huge, to do it in a controlled environment, " O'Neill said.
