Roseville girl wins Comcast Scholarship

Tori Moran being honored for community service, leadership.

The Comcast  Foundation said it has named Roseville’s Tori Moran, a senior at Totino Grace High School, as one of its 2011 recipients of the annual Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. 

The  foundation said Moran is being honored for her volunteerism and involvement with Sharing and Caring Hands, Crestview Nursing Home, Feed My Starving Children, Lasallian Youth and Positive Peer Leadership Program; as well as her participation in hockey and lacrosse. She plans to attend St. Paul College to study Business.

The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program provides one-time $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who, among other things, strive to achieve their potential, are catalysts for positive change in their communities, and are active in their schools.

Moran is among 34 Minnesota students  receiving the scholarship and will be recognized at a reception next Wednesday at the Saint Paul Hotel.   David Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast Corp., will host the event, the company said.

Since the national program’s inception in 1999, Comcast has provided scholarships to more than 15,000 students totaling more than $15.4 million.  In the Twin Cities, Comcast started its student scholarship program in 2004 and to date has honored 256 students, totaling $268,000.
