Three girls hockey stars at Roseville Area High School on Wednesday signed letters of intent, committing to playing the sport at the collegiate level.

Brodt told of having forged a long-term friendship with Stecklein, with the two of them playing hockey together since the fourth grade.

Brodt's scholarship to St. Cloud is especially sweet for her father, Vic, who is the head coach of the girls hockey team at Roseville High. "It's pretty special," said Vic Brodt, who by day is an insurance agent and during his college days also played hockey at St Cloud State.

Meanwhile, Stecklein said she has always wanted to be a Gopher.

"It was always my dream," said Stecklein, who comes from a family that has either attended or taught at the University of Minnesota. "I am just super excited."

As for Slattery, she said she chose Providence because it is a solid, smaller college with a good academic and hockey program.

"I wanted a smaller school" and Providence has an enrollment of about 5,000 students, Slattery said.
