Roseville's Night To Unite Today

More than 90 block parties scheduled. Event a way to reconnect with neighbors.

More than 90 block parties in Roseville are registered to participate in Night to Unite today (Tuesday), the annual national event aimed at promoting community safety and awareness among cities across the country.

“The benefit is this is at least one time during the year when people have a reason to get out meet and talk with their neighbors,” said Roseville Police Chief Rick Mathwig. “It is a chance to reconnect find out what is going on.”

Formerly known as National Night Out, the annual community block parties have been held for at least 20 years, Mathwig said.

Sarah Mahmud, Roseville Police Department’s community relations coordinator, said, “Last year we reached a record 100 parties and in previous years the numbers were in the mid 80s.”

Mahmud said residents still have time to register their block parties and pick up barricade tape to block off their streets.

“Although, at this point, we won’t be able to schedule police and fire visits, we are still encouraging people to register their gatherings by visiting www.cityofroseville.com/NighttoUnite,”  she said.

Meanwhile, the Police Department on Monday afternoon cancelled its annual Family Night Out event for that day due to the possibility of severe weather, concern for public safety, and flooding in Central Park. 

Family Night Out had been scheduled as a lead up to Night To Unite. It had been scheduled for Central Park, 2540 Lexington Ave. with a variety of children’s activities.
