Roseville Poll: Should Cellphone Use Be Banned While Driving?

Federal agency sites safety need.

News services are reporting that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is recommending that there be a nation-wide ban on cellphone use while driving.

"No call, no text, no update is worth a human life," board chairwoman Deborah Hersman said in a Washington Post story picked up by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "It is time for all of us to stand up for safety by turning off electronic devices when driving."

Distracted driving, some of it due to cellphone use, contributed to about 3,100 deaths in highway crashes in 2010, according to the NTSB.
