Roseville Teens Prank Goes Awry

East Metro SWAT Team called.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. -- The school year hasn't started in Roseville yet, but a pair of teens learned a tough lesson Wednesday when a prank landed them in hot water.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Transit Avenue in Roseville on a report of shots fired from the balcony of a home. Police spoke with neighbors and contractors working in the area who described the shots as being from a .22 caliber firearm.

Witnesses also described seeing the alleged shooters scramble back into the home after the shots were fired.

Officers established a perimeter around the home and made a number of unsuccessful attempts to contact the people inside.

Fearing the suspects had barricaded themselves into the home, police called in the East Metro SWAT team.

As the SWAT team was preparing to enter the home two 13-year-old boys and their parents approached officers and confessed that they had modified firecrackers to make them sound like gunshots and tossed them from the balcony of the home.

After being confronted by a neighbor the boys ran and hid in a nearby house. When they found out police were on the scene they called their parents and confessed what they had done.

At this point it is unclear whether misdemeanor charges will be filed, or whether the boys will have to pay restitution.
