Roseville Trying to Beat The Heat

With temperatures already topping 96 degrees, residents and workers in Roseville were taking a variety of measures to stay cool.

With temperatures soaring for a second straight day, people in Roseville were taking a variety of measures to beat the heat.

At Lake McCarrons County Park, Toran Hansen and his family took the beach. His three children did some wading.

“Everyone is wearing sunscreen and jumping into the lake as much as possible,” Hansen said. “Then we will go to our air-conditioned home.”

Hansen’s wife Siobhan said going the lake made good sense since her family only lives about five minutes from the park.

As a pediatrician, Siobhan’s advice for beating the heat: Drink plenty of fluids, use plenty of sunscreen if you are in the sun and, if at all possible, stay in the shade.

Up the road, at Rice Street and Highway 36, construction worker Derek Teeselink was trying to take that advice to heart. He said he was “drinking lots of water” and “finding any shade I can.”

Teeselink, a pipelayer, said it was also important to find an air-conditioned building for lunch.

With such extreme heat, “you have to take it a little easier,” said Teeselink, who works for C.W. Houle, a water main contractor.

Meanwhile, out on a lunch break at Central Park, co-workers Cindy Heitman and Judy Kuck said they had cut their walk short and headed for a bench in the shade.
