St. Paul Man Arrested For Alleged Attempted Robbery of Roseville Quizno's

Roseville Police Department issues press statement on alleged crime.

The Roseville Police Department issued the following press release late Monday night regarding the arrest of a St. Paul man for the alleged attempted robbery of a Roseville sandwich shop:

"On Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 at approximately 9:30 p.m. a North St. Paul police officer working a New Year’s Eve Safe and Sober traffic safety campaign arrested 24-year-old St. Paul resident Michael Scott Luedtke for the attempted armed robbery of the Roseville Quizno’s restaurant, 2339 Fairview Ave. N. earlier in the day.
It was at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31; an unknown male entered the Roseville Quizno’s restaurant and demanded money from the store employees.
During the course of the robbery, a store employee in a back office heard a commotion near the cash register and when he investigated, he discovered the store was being robbed.
Fearing for his safety, the employee ran from the business and the lone robbery suspect gave chase. As the employee exited the store he lost his footing and fell to the ground.
According to the victim as well as a witness, the robbery suspect approached the fallen employee, pointed what appeared to be a sawed off shotgun at him and said “boom!” and then ran to a waiting getaway vehicle.
Additional witnesses provided police with a description as well as the license plate number of the getaway vehicle. Investigating officers determined the getaway vehicle was a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta stolen from a residence in Maple Grove on Thursday, Dec. 22.
Investigating Roseville officers put out an additional pick-up and holds on the vehicle and all occupants for the attempted restaurant robbery and aggravated assault.
It was at 9:30 p.m. the same day; a North St. Paul Police Officer observed the wanted vehicle being driven south bound on 35E at Pennsylvania Avenue. The vehicle was ultimately stopped with the assistance of officers from the St. Paul Police Department near 691 Robert St.
The suspect vehicle’s four occupants were arrested without incident and later booked at the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center.
Those arrested are as follows: 19-year old Alex James Campbell from St. Paul; 23-year old Sara Ann Swart from Bloomington; 18-year old Caci Rose Palmer from Medford and 24-year old Michael Scott Luedtke from St. Paul
Recovered beneath the driver’s seat of the Volkswagen was a weapon police believe was used in the earlier Quizno’s robbery/assault.
When interviewed by a Roseville detective on Sunday, Jan. 1, Luedtke admitted to the Quizno’s restaurant attempted robbery and using the weapon recovered by the police in the Volkswagen Jetta.
The Roseville Police Department will not release any statements made by any of Luedtke’s passengers in the Jetta at the time of their apprehension because of the on-going investigation.
At the time of his arrest, Luedtke was a fugitive from justice wanted on a Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant for a parole violation stemming from a Hennepin County armed robbery conviction in 2008.
The Roseville Police Department will not be releasing Luedtke’s booking image because it is believed he may responsible for other armed robberies in the metro area.
Roseville Police believe Luedtke may be responsible for the Thursday, Dec. 29th armed robbery of the Subway Restaurant located at 1748 Lexington Avenue in which a suspect matching Luedtke’s description robbed the restaurant’s employees at gun point.
Luedtke is currently being held in the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center on the Minnesota Department of Corrections warrant as well as Roseville’s aggravated robbery probable cause arrest.

The Roseville Police Department will be submitting its investigation to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office for charging consideration in coming days.
If charged and convicted on the most serious offense of first-degree aggravated robbery. If found guilty, Luedtke could be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 20 years or to payment of a fine of not more than $35,000 or both."
