34 Percent Of St. Paul Students Proficient In Reading: State Testing

ST. PAUL, MN — St. Paul Public School students continue to struggle in basic proficiency of science, math, and reading following pandemic-related shutdowns, according to state test scores released Thursday.
The troubling test results come from the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments and Minnesota Test of Academic Skills. The tests are broken up by subject matter.
St. Paul students take statewide reading assessments in grades 3-8 and 10. Of the students who took the reading MCA and MTAS, only 33.9 percent met or exceeded grade-level standards.

That result is down slightly from 2022.

Meanwhile, regular school attendance also continues to lag well behind pre-pandemic rates in St. Paul.
The Department of Education tracks "consistent attendance," defined as the number of students who are attending school at least 90 percent of the time.
Only 57 percent of St. Paul students attended school at least 90 percent of the time during the 2021-2022 school year.
The statewide average for the same time period was slightly better. 69.8 percent.
