OTTAWA, Canada — Canadian hockey fans loudly booed the U.S. national anthem during Saturday night’s game between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild, protesting new economic penalties imposed by President Donald Trump.
Similar reactions erupted at other NHL games this weekend in Ontario and Calgary and at an NBA game featuring the Toronto Raptors.
Trump declared an economic emergency Saturday, announcing steep tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. The measures include a 25 percent tax on Canadian and Mexican imports and a 10 percent tax on Chinese goods.
