Deadline For MN Property Tax Refund Is Approaching

The average refund is about $1,100 for homeowners and $730 for renters, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

ST. PAUL, MN — The deadline for Minnesota homeowners and renters to file for their 2021 property tax refund is Tuesday, Aug. 15. The state has sent out $827 million in 2021 property tax refunds to the more than 877,000 Minnesotans who already applied.

The average refund is about $1,100 for homeowners and $730 for renters, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue.

Meanwhile, claims for 2022 refunds can be filed until Aug. 15, 2024.

The state has already begun issuing 2022 tax-year refunds to renters. Homeowners can expect their 2022 tax refunds starting in late August, officials said.

Homeowners can file online for free here. Renters can file by paper or use a tax software provider.
