Metro Transit Police Sergeant Drowns In White Bear Lake

Witnesses said the woman entered the water from a boat and was submerged for more than 40 minutes before being found.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — An off-duty Metro Transit Police sergeant died Sunday afternoon after going into White Bear Lake from a boat and failing to resurface, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 2:27 p.m. on June 22 to the east side of the lake on reports of a woman who had gone underwater and not come back up.

Witnesses said the woman entered the water from a boat and was submerged for more than 40 minutes before being found.

Fire and rescue divers located and recovered the woman, identified as 40-year-old Beverly Rodriguez of Woodbury. She was taken to Regions Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Rodriguez served as a sergeant with the Metro Transit Police. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a water death.
