Minnesota Connections Academy Recognizes Maplewood Student

Student of the Month Award recognizes achievements in and out of the virtual classroom

ST. PAUL, MN Shay Baecker, of Maplewood, was recently named one of Minnesota Connections Academy’s (MNCA) Students of the Month in recognition of her achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.

Shay, a freshman at the public online school, was nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Welsh, because of her hard work and outstanding attitude towards learning. As a Student of the Month, Shay will receive a certificate of achievement and be profiled in the Minnesota Connections Academy student newsletter and the school’s social media platforms.

“Our students of the month demonstrate leadership and an extraordinary commitment to learning while serving as strong role models for their peers,” said Brad Swanson, School Leader at Minnesota Connections Academy. “The members of our faculty and staff are proud to give these virtual classroom leaders the recognition they deserve.”

According to her mother, Julie, they enrolled Shay in Minnesota Connections Academy in 2014 to be in a more personalized learning environment that offered a curriculum that challenged her daughter. Julie said the transition to the online classroom was easy and enjoyable with the help of school administrators and teachers.

“We love the curriculum, the teachers are great, and we love the schedule flexibility,” Julie said. “We also love that Shay looks forward to school each day and just really thrives with Minnesota Connections Academy.”
