MN GOP's Bill Says 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' Is A Mental Illness

Minnesota Democrats slammed the proposed bill, accusing state Republicans of pandering to the most "extreme" activists in their party.

ST. PAUL, MN β€” A bill introduced by five Republicans in the Minnesota Senate would define "Trump Derangement Syndrome" as an official mental illness.

"Trump Derangement Syndrome" is a term used by the president’s supporters to describe individuals who, they claim, have an irrational or extreme reaction to Donald Trump, often to the point of obsession or perceived loss of reason.

Under SF 2589, Minnesota law would be amended to include the following:

"Trump Derangement Syndrome" means the acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons that is in reaction to the policiesand presidencies of President Donald J. Trump. Symptoms may include Trump-induced general hysteria, which produces an inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in President Donald J. Trump's behavior.
This may be expressed by:
(1) verbal expressions of intense hostility toward President Donald J. Trump; and
(2) overt acts of aggression and violence against anyone supporting President Donald J. Trump or anything that symbolizes President Donald J. Trump.

The bill was introduced by Republican lawmakers Eric Lucero (St. Michael), Steve Drazkowski (Mazeppa), Nathan Wesenberg (Little Falls), Justin D. Eichorn (Grand Rapids), and Glenn H. Gruenhagen (Glencoe).

β€œThis is why Minnesota Republicans have lost every statewide election in recent memory – every time they get an opportunity to try to improve Minnesotans’ lives, they instead double down on an agenda that caters to their party’s most extreme right-wing activists," DFL spokesperson Darwin Forsyth said in a statement.
