MINNEAPOLIS — The polls have officially closed, and votes are beginning to roll in for the highly anticipated special election in Minnesota Senate District 60. Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidate Doron Clark is expected to win the blue-leaning Hennepin County district.

The election was called by Gov. Tim Walz to fill the vacant seat left by DFL Sen. Kari Dziedzic, who passed away from cancer in December.

With the Minnesota State Senate currently deadlocked in a 33-33 tie between Republicans and Democrats, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The outcome of this special election will decide which party gains the majority, shaping the direction of the chamber — and state policy — for the next two years.
