MN Test Scores Remain Dismal: 2024 State Report Card
Minnesota's public school students remain significantly less proficient in core subjects compared to their pre-pandemic test scores.
ST. PAUL, MN — Minnesota's public school students remain significantly less proficient in core subjects compared to their pre-pandemic test scores in 2019, according to new data from the Minnesota Department of Education.
On Thursday, the state released results from the 2024 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments, which show that scores "overall remain steady for all students in reading, mathematics, and science in 2023-24," the MDE said.
Although scores have stabilized since the pandemic-related shutdowns, they still have a long way to go to recover.

Some good news
Meanwhile, statewide "consistent attendance" rose to 74.5 percent, up from 69.8 percent last year. Consistent attendance is defined as the number of students who attend class at least 90 percent of the time.
“We are proud of the work our educators have done to strengthen relationships to boost attendance and make sure students feel welcomed and supported. Thank you students, educators and families for the work you’ve done to prioritize student engagement and learning,” Education Commissioner Willie Jett said.
“These efforts are making a difference, and we look forward to seeing the consistent attendance rates continue to rise.”
Graduation rates remain consistent, hovering around 83 percent since 2019.
