MPR Names New Host Of All Things Considered

The station announced a major change to its afternoon news lineup on Wednesday.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minnesota Public Radio has named Clay Masters as the new local host of All Things Considered, the station announced Wednesday. He will begin on Sept. 29.

Masters replaces longtime host Tom Crann, who stepped away from the role this spring after more than two decades to join YourClassical MPR.

Masters, a politics reporter, has been with MPR since January 2024, covering state and national politics, including two legislative sessions and Gov. Tim Walz’s vice presidential nomination.

"All Things Considered was the first public radio show I listened to regularly and I look forward to being the local host in Minnesota for a program I’ve long respected," Masters said in a news release.

"I'm excited to work with MPR News’ talented All Things Considered team to connect with Minnesotans across the state and am eager to bring my experience in the studio and on the ground reporting to this role."

Before coming to Minnesota, he spent more than a decade at Iowa Public Radio, where he hosted Morning Edition there and reported extensively on the Iowa caucuses.

MPR News program director Stephanie Curtis told the station that Masters’ background made him the right fit, pointing to his experience covering issues across rural and urban communities as well as his ability to earn listener trust.

"We’re thrilled to have Clay on All Things Considered, keeping Minnesotans informed each day," said Curtis, programming director for MPR News.

"He brings not only hosting experience, but decades of reporting expertise. We needed someone who connects with audiences on a personal level and embodies our commitment to fact-based, non-partisan journalism. Clay is exactly that."
