ST. PAUL, MN — Gov. Tim Walz on Wednesday unveiled a new state dashboard that allows Minnesotans to track federal funding cuts and service disruptions under the Trump administration.

So far, nearly $300 million in federal funding has been cut from Minnesota, with $56 million "at risk," according to the state.

Federal disruptions and cuts so far include grants to track measles and avian influenza, provide heating assistance, and mitigate flooding and more.

"Decisions made by billionaires in Washington are cutting real programs that save Minnesotans money, monitor disease outbreaks, and keep us safe. And they're just getting started on their promised cuts to Social Security and Medicaid," Walz said in a statement.

"Sweeping changes at the federal level are happening with little to no warning or public process. By tracking these changes, we’re doing what we can to keep Minnesotans informed on what we know and what's to come."

State of Minnesota

Minnesota state agencies are reporting federal funding cuts to Minnesota Management and Budget, which will now update the new dashboard daily.

Check out the dashboard here.

According to state officials, one out of every three dollars spent by Minnesota’s government comes from federal sources, supporting programs like Medicaid, food assistance, childcare aid, and job training for low-income families.

In fiscal year 2025 alone, Minnesota received 687 federal grants totaling $23.3 billion.

As vital services already face major funding losses, looming cuts to entitlement programs like Medicaid, which the state is required to provide, could blow a massive hole in Minnesota’s budget, state officials warn.

Federal funding cancellations have already had a significant impact on Minnesotans across a wide range of sectors, including:

Minnesota Department of Health

Lost more than $220 million in previously approved federal public health funding, cut without notice. The funding had supported vaccines, disease tracking, infection prevention, and HVAC upgrades in long-term care facilities.

The cuts forced the department to lay off 170 employees and rescind nearly 20 job offers.

Minnesota Department of Human Services

Lost $27.5 million, which affects school-based mental health care, access to naloxone, addiction treatment and recovery services, and efforts to address disparities in the behavioral health system, according to Walz's office.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture

Lost nearly $18 million in previously approved USDA grants. The canceled funds would have supported Minnesota farmers, schools, early childcare providers, and food shelves, state officials said.
