Public Hearing For Revised Park Ordinance On February 8 In Ramsey County

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the revised Ramsey County Parks & Recreation Ordinance on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 9 a.m.

The Ramsey County Park Ordinance was adopted in 1992 and last amended in 2007. The purpose is to promote the safety, health, enjoyment and welfare of everyone in their use of parks, and to protect park property and resources. The Park Ordinance requires routine updating to stay current and align with community needs.

In Dec. 2020, Ramsey County began a process to update the park ordinance. In 2021, Parks & Recreation conducted in-person and virtual community engagement. Results were reviewed with the board of commissioners and policy direction was received at a Nov. 2 workshop.

The ordinance revision process aims to:

• Respond to long-standing community feedback about park access.
• View the ordinance through a racial equity lens.
• Modernize the ordinance and address contemporary park issues.

Changes were made to result in an ordinance that is:

• Equitable.
• Consistent and streamlined.
• Promotes greater enjoyment of the parks.
• Ensures user safety.
• Protects park facilities, property and natural resources.
