Ramsey County Government: Retiring Director Of Community Corrections John Klavins Recognized

The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners recognized retiring Director of Community Corrections John Klavins at the March 15 meeting.

Mr. Klavins began his career in Ramsey County at the Juvenile Detention Center from 1986-88. He went on to work for 15 years with Washington County Community Corrections. He also served as the Carver County Court Services Director and Chief Probation Officer from 2003-15 before accepting the role of Ramsey County's Director of Community Corrections in 2015. 

During his tenure, Mr. Klavins and his team have made great strides in criminal justice reform including eliminating supervision fees in 2020; closing Boys Totem Town in 2019;  and implementing Family Engaged Case Planning and Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiatives work, which has enhanced community connections and programs that significantly reduced out-of-home placements.
