Why This St. Paul Car Parts Plant Is Shutting Down This Summer

The St. Paul site, located at 2299 Terminal Road, will close for good by the end of August. Layoffs will begin on Aug. 15.

ST. PAUL, MN — TransAxle, LLC. will permanently shut down its facility in St. Paul this summer and lay off six employees at the location, according to a WARN notice filed with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

In total, about 80 workers across the country will lose their jobs after the company said it was unable to find a buyer to keep operations going.

The St. Paul site, located at 2299 Terminal Road, will close for good by the end of August. Layoffs will begin on Aug. 15 and continue through Aug. 29.

Impacted job titles in the layoffs include shop managers, mechanics, machinists, focus team leads, and team leads. The company noted there are no bumping rights in place, and it’s unclear whether any of the affected employees are union members.

The layoffs are permanent, and no trade impacts are known at this time.

State officials say the Minnesota Rapid Response Team will work with TransAxle and affected workers to assess the closure’s impact and provide transition support. Laura Dale, a senior specialist with the team, is leading the state’s response.

TransAxle specialized in remanufacturing transmissions, differentials, and other driveline components for the commercial vehicle market.
