Shakopee City Council Approves New at Tuesday's Meeting: New Residential Development, New Website
The City Council also approved lighting fields at the 17th Avenue Sports Complex.

Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke recapped the Shakopee City Council meeting Tuesday night in a post on his website.
The council approved the first residential development in four years. The 70-unit, single family development is on the southwest corner of Marschall Road and County Road 78. Called the Valley Creek Second Addition, it covers 40 acres. Four lots included in addition to the 70 are for stormwater ponding purposes and for an additional right-of-way for county roads 17 and 78. Trails are also included on along those roads as part of the project.
Lighting fields one and two at the 17th Avenue Sports Complex was also approved. The Youth Soccer Association has committed a total of $60,000 toward the project in the next three years and the Youth Football Association has donated $40,000. The city will use park reserve funds to pay for the remaining $118,000 cost of the $218,000 project. The approximate $5,700 maintenance cost per year will be included in the operation budget for the parks.

A new city website is also in the works as the current site was created in late 2006/early 2006. Two systems are under consideration: one used currently in Eden Prairie and the other used by the city of Burnsville. The council approved moving forward and creating a task force to help with usability, technical and other items as needed. The goal is to launch the new site by Jan. 1.
City staff estimated the cost of the new website to be between $30-$40,000 with ongoing costs of up to $7,500 per year. Money has not been budgeted for this project in 2012, but could come from the general fund, according to city staff.
