Brent David Matter Pleads Not Guilty to Videotaping Teen in Bathroom

The Shakopee man faces one felony charge of interfering with the privacy of a minor.

A 39-year-old Shakopee man accused of videotaping a teenage girl in the bathroom of his home has pleaded not guilty.

Brent David Matter pleaded not guilty in Scott County Court to one felony charge of interfering with the privacy of a minor. A jury trial in the case has been set for April 25.

Matter is free on $30,000 bond. In addition to several conditions for bail, a new one was added Jan. 5, stating Matter can't be on the grounds of St. Hubert’s Catholic Church, in Chanhassen. A woman at the church who asked that her name not be used said only that there’s a connection to the case and that church officials asked the court to add that condition.

At the time of his arrest, in mid-November, Matter was employed by Scott County as an environmental specialist. He is no longer a county employee, according to an official in the county’s human resources department. Matter was also reportedly the representative of  on the Shakopee Catholic Tri-Parish Collaboration Council, but no longer holds that position.

The alleged incident is reported to have happened in late September 2010. A 15-year-old girl told authorities she was in a bathroom of Matter’s home when she heard a clicking sound and noticed a camera turned on in video mode. The camera was on a sink ledge amongst clutter, with the lens pointed toward the shower. The girl said she played a portion of the tape and, after she saw video of herself undressing, deleted the video.
