Updated: Chaska Family Injured in Crash near Highway 101 in Shakopee

Ashley Scott, 26, of Chaska, remains in serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center as of Thursday afternoon, according to a hospital spokesperson.

One vehicle with a family of five inside went off the road Feb. 8 near the Highway 101 bridge near Shakopee, according to Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate.

James E. Washington, 21, of Chaska, was driving a 1998 Ford Expedition southbound on Highway 101 at about 8:30 a.m. when it went off the road and struck a tree, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Washington reportedly was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to for treatment. No alcohol was detected, the State Patrol said.

Ashley Scott, 26, who was listed as Washington's wife, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center by helicopter and suffered non-life threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. She was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and as of Thursday afternoon was listed in serious condition at HCMC, according to a hospital spokesperson. A FOX 9 News report said everyone else involved had been treated and released from area hospitals by Thursday afternoon.

Their son, 3-year-old Bobby Scott, was not wearing a seat belt and was flown to HCMC with non-life threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol. It isn't yet clear if he was the one ejected from the vehicle onto a small pond near the tree hit by the vehicle.

Their daughter, Sandra Scott, whose age was not given, was also not wearing a seat belt and was transported to St. Francis for treatment of minor injuries, according to the State Patrol report.

Another son, 7-year-old Sonny J. Hollingworth, was wearing a seat belt and although he was also transported to St. Francis, the report says he suffered no apparent injury.

Reports that the vehicle lost its wheel before going off the road came from a witness but have not been confirmed, Roeske said.

Highway 101 was closed in both directions but reopened to traffic at about 9:45 a.m.

Officers from Carver County, Scott County and the Shakopee Police Department responded to the scene.
