Update: 17-Year-Old Pulled From Lake O'Dowd in Shakopee

Crews pulled a swimmer who had been under water for up to 30 minutes on Friday afternoon. He is listed in critical condition as of Friday evening.

Crews found and rescued a swimmer who had been under water for up to 30 minutes in a Shakopee lake Friday afternoon.

According to Scott County authorities, a call to rescue crews reporting the missing swimmer came in at about 1:50 p.m. and emergency personnel were on the scene within five minutes searching for a 17-year-old boy.

The teen had been on a raft with friends at the north end of Lake O'Dowd on their way to an island where there are tire swings, according to Scott County Sheriff's Office Capt. Jeff Swedin. The teen, who wasn't wearing a life jacket, jumped off the raft about 20-30 yards from shore to swim to the island and that is when he went missing, according to Swedin.

"It's a hot spot for kids to come," Swedin said of the tire swing area of the lake.

When members of the teen's group got to the island and didn't see their friend, they had someone call 911 immediately, Swedin said.

Nick Stolt had been boating on the lake with his 6-year-old son at the time and was pulling up to a public access dock off County Road 79 when members of the Sheriff's Office arrived and asked to use his boat in the search.

"We were coming in and officers were running out," Stolt said. "They said they needed to use the boat and I helped with the search."

Stolt said a deputy who had been in his boat found missing teen. 

"He was just lifeless," Stolt said of the teen. "They found him, they held him and they pulled him in."

He was brought to shore in another boat and Stolt said emergency personnel tried to revive the boy with CPR before he was transported by ambulance to .

A North Memorial hospital helicopter was called but diverted to St. Francis. Swedin said the teen's condition was not known as of 5:12 p.m.
