Updated: Fire Destroys Home Near Shakopee

A fire in Louisville Township destroyed a home on Sunday.

Multiple fire crews were called to the fully engulfed house fire near Shakopee at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The home at 15520 Zumbro Ave. was fully engulfed in flames when Shakopee Fire crews arrived and the fire had extended to a nearby barn. Firefighters successfully worked to save the barn, however, the home is a total loss, according to Capt. Tom Pitschneider. 

The fire was contained by 3:30 p.m. with no firefighters injured, but one of the residents of the home was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. No one was home at the time of the fire, Pitschneider said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were reports of a possible explosion prior to smoke and flames noticed by a neighbor. 

With temperatures in the 90s on Sunday, heat exhaustion or heat stroke could happen in minutes for firefighters working in extreme temperatures.  WCCO report says 13 departments had been called to help fight the blaze to keep firefighters fresh and healthy.
