Free Coffee Today for National Coffee Day

Caribou Coffee shops are offering free small cups of Amy's Blend coffee to customers who present the appropriate coupon. Sales of Amy's Blend collection will go to support the work of CancerCare.

If you always start your morning with a cup of coffee, consider heading to Caribou Coffee on Saturday where you can get a free small cup of joe and also support a worthy cause.

Saturday is National Coffee Day and Twin Cities-based Caribou will be serving free small cups of Amy's Blend coffee to customers who present official Amy's Blend coupons. The coupon will be posted on Caribou's social platforms, the company said in a press release.

In Shakopee, there is a Caribou Coffee located in the Southbridge Crossing shopping center and another one on Heather Street. A third location is at the front gate of Valleyfair.

The free cups of Amy's Blend coincides with Caribou's launch of this coffee collection, which features citrus and melon flavors. Amy's Blend is named after Amy Erickson, an original Caribou roastmaster who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1995, the company said.

In tribute to Erickson, Caribou said it's supporting the fight against breast cancer in a new partnership with CancerCare, a national non-profit dedicated to providing free support services for anyone affected by cancer diagnosis. From Saturday, Sept. 29 through Wednesday, Nov. 7; Caribou will offer its special Amy's Blend collection – which includes coffee, tea, and merchandise – both in stores and online. Ten percent of all proceeds from the collection sales will go to CancerCare to support free services for those affected by breast cancer, the coffee retailer said.

Caribou's charitable program coincides with October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Meanwhile, Dunn Brothers also will be recognizing National Coffee Day. All day Saturday, buy one pound of Dunn Brothers' fresh roasted coffee beans and get the second pound at half price, according to the coffee retailer. The nearest Dunn Brothers coffee shop is in Savage.

Today, more than 400 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year, according to punchbowl.com. "It is a world commodity that is second only to oil."
