Hada Certain Charm Wins $46,000 MN Stallion Breeders’ Futurity

Hada Certain Charm won the $46,000 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Quarter Horse Futurity Sunday at Canterbury Park.

The 2-year-old Kansas-bred owned by Leo Butell and Mike Schau, needed a late rally to catch stablemate Fly Eyeann, getting up at the wire to win by a nose.

Hada Certain Charm, the fastest qualifier for the futurity and 1 to 5 wagering favorite, was ridden by Nik Goodwin and is trained by Ed Ross Hardy.

“The track kept breaking under him,” Goodwin said. “In the last 100 yards I felt him getting a hold of the track and then he just kicked in.”

The final time of 17.934 seconds for the 350 yards is a new stakes record. This was the third Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity win for Hardy and the first for Goodwin. Finishing second was Minnesota-bred filly Fly Eyeann, also trained by Hardy. Third was Hastabealeader for trainer Bob Johnson. Hada Certain Charm returned $2.60 to win.
