Hazardous Weather Outlook Posted for Scott County

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 7:45 p.m. March 19. Prepare for damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, seek shelter inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.

The National Weather Service – Twin Cities posted a Hazardous Weather Outlook at 5:54 p.m. for portions of central and southern Minnesota, including Shakopee and all of Scott County.

Tonight, thunderstorms will shift north across much of the outlook area. The chance of rain in Shakopee is 80 percent with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Some of the stronger storms may produce small hail and gusty winds. The threat of severe thunderstorms is low, but brief, heavy rainfall is likely, the National Weather Service said.

On Tuesday, thunderstorms are possible across mainly eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. In Shakopee, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 p.m. It should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. The winds will lessen and come from the south at about 5 mph before becoming calm. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent and new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half inch are possible.
