Update: Hermantown Golf Coach Accused of Furnishing Alcohol to Minors

A Hermantown High School golf coach has been arrested in connection with providing alcohol to minors while in Shakopee for the state golf tournament.

Shakopee police say they arrested the 26-year-old man on a charge of gross misdemeanor furnishing alcohol to minors. Shakopee Patch does not generally name suspects before they are formally charged. Hermantown School Board records show the man was hired as a golf coach in 2011.

Police say they arrived at the in Shakopee at approximately 3 a.m. June 14. The arrest occured at the hotel and police said they also wrote tickets to three teens for underage alcohol consumption in connection with the incident. Those cited include an 18-year-old Duluth man, a 16-year-old boy from Duluth, and a 17-year-old Hermantown girl.

Reached by phone Thursday night, the coach told the Duluth News Tribune he had no comment on the arrest. Hermantown Activities Director Beth Clark did not return a recorded message from the News Tribune seeking comment.

The girls and boys golf teams from Hermantown played in the Minnesota State High School League Class AA tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan June 12-13.
