Hollywood Trickster Wins $21,150 Great Lakes Stakes at Canterbury

Trainer Edward Ross Hardy wins stakes for fifth time.

Hollywood Trickster won the $21,150 Great Lakes Stakes Tuesday at , his third consecutive win and second stakes win of the meet.

The 5-year-old New Mexico-bred quarter horse, owned by Christine Hovey of Adel, IA, broke well under Derek Bell and caught Paintyourownwagon at the wire, winning the 440-yard race by a neck in a final time of 21.744 seconds, earning a 104 Speed Index.

This is the fifth Great Lake Stakes win for trainer Edward Ross Hardy.

“Hollywood Trickster came back good this year,” Hardy said. “It’s nice to see these older horses running strong. The horse he beat was a pretty good one, but not good enough today.”

Hollywood Trickster, the betting favorite, paid $3.20. Paintyourownwagon, trained by Amber Blair and ridden by Mark Luark, was second and A Faster Streaker finished third for trainer William Harris and jockey Thomas Wellington.
