Celebrate Fourth of July Around Shakopee

Celebrations are nothing new to Shakopee, with some of the biggest entertainment venues in the state. And on fourth of July, you can find those venues pulling out the stops with horse racing, weiner dog racing, hot dog eating contests and fireworks in multiple locations, with discounts and other deals to boot.

At , fireworks will light up the sky at dusk with a bigger show than the one they shoot off almost daily. They are also honoring members of the military (active and retired) by offering free admission July 4-5 with proof of service. Military members can also receive discounted rates on admission for family members. Military members with valid proof of service can purchase up to six admission tickets for their immediate family for just $28.50 each (regularly $42.99). Discounted military family tickets can be purchased at any Valleyfair ticket booth.

Valleyfair is doing a free Valleyfair Fourth of July T-shirt give-away to the first guests to enter the park on July 4. The shirts are imprinted with patriotic characters Snoopy and Woodstock. Valleyfair opens at 10 a.m. on July 4.

For the 18th consecutive year, the  is sponsoring a fireworks display at 10 p.m at the SMSC Wacipi (Pow Wow) Grounds, 3212 Dakotah Parkway. 

Shakopee City Offices and the Shakopee Community Center will be closed on July 4, but  will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At , . The day's events will be moved to Saturday, July 7 instead with horse racing, a weiner dog race championship, free Hormel hot dogs and a hot dog eating contest. Plus, there will be free pony rides, petting zoo and face painting. After the final race, kids can race on the track.
