Hwy 169/I-494 Traffic Signal Soon to be Back in Service

Have questions? There's an open house for that – on Wednesday this week.

Motorists on northbound Highway 169 in Bloomington and Edina will experience delays as a traffic signal just north of I-494 soon goes back into service, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The traffic signal will be put into service as soon as electrical power has been connected, as early as Thursday, March 29.

The signal is needed for an upcoming traffic switch on Highway 169 as part of the Highway 169/I-494 interchange reconstruction project. All traffic will soon be using the new northbound lanes and shifted to the east at the interchange so that the southbound lanes can be reconstructed. The current merge lane from westbound I-494 to northbound Highway 169 will not be available during this shift and the signal is needed to allow traffic from westbound I-494 to safely access northbound Hwy 169.

The traffic signal will remain in operation through fall 2012. No other traffic signals at the interchange will be put back into service.

The Highway 169/I-494 interchange reconstruction project includes turning the current expressway into a freeway by rebuilding the interchange with six ramps instead of eight. The performance-based design removes traffic signals, reduces congestion and improves safety.

The public is also invited to attend an open house to learn about the upcoming final construction season. Project staff will be available to answer your questions.
