Update: Jockey Injured in Race at Canterbury Park

Update: 10:45 a.m. Monday. Canterbury Park officials said Monday morning they have spoken with jockey Carlos Castro's agent who was with him at the hospital.

"At this point, no serious injuries to report," said Canterbury spokesman Jeff Maday. "They are still doing precautionary testing but as of now it sounds very promising."

No breaks or serious injuries have been detected, officials said.

The horse named Sajani was taken back to her stall where she was treated for a laceration but is otherwise okay and just sore, Canterbury Park officials tweeted Monday.

A jockey was reportedly injured Sunday when he fell off a horse during the seventh race at .

The horse Carlos Castro was riding, Sajani, clipped heels with a horse in front of her, throwing Castro over her head to the turf as she fell, according to Canterbury officials.

"Castro was injured but I have not heard to what extent," said Canterbury spokesman Jeff Maday. He said Castro was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for evaluation.

According to the Jockeys' Guild website, Castro is a Puerto Rican-born jockey who lives in Illinois with his wife Stephanie and two daughters. It lists his greatest achievement as winning five races in one day.
