Updated: Dr. John Bezek Chosen as Shakopee Assistant Superintendent
"Congratulations to Dr. Bezek and to Shakopee schools. A great choice on their part, a great loss on ours. Finding his equal will not be an easy thing." – Randall Johnson (comment on Oakdale Patch)
Dr. John Bezek was chosen March 16 as Shakopee School District's new assistant superintendent. He was selected unanimously after the second round of interviews on Friday after the committee had narrowed a pool of eight final candidates to three.
For the past nine years, Bezek has been the principal of Tartan High School in Oakdale. The high school serves 1,800 students in ninth through 12th grade. This year, he was named High School Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals.
Bezek grew up in South St. Paul, where he said there is a strong community support for the school.

Bezek said he is excited to be heading to a progressive, growing district.
“I look forward to helping enhance the great reputation the district already has,” Bezek said. “I have been so impressed by the positive buzz in the district. When I went around the community and talked with people, they were excited about the opportunities their children have in the district and I look forward to helping expand those opportunities.”
Bezek feels his new position will be a great fit and is eager to get started. He will start July 1.
“I couldn’t be more excited to jump in and start meeting people and learning the Shakopee way of doing things,” he said. “Again, I think the future is bright for the district. Even though we are in some difficult financial times in the state, the district has positioned itself well to meet those challenges and still offer well-rounded programs for our students.”
Bezek was selected from 75 applicants for the position.
