Shakopee Women's Clothing Boutique For Sale

The building and the business are for sale together for $350,000.

It was a tough call for Tania Richter.

Richter owns and operates , a women's clothing boutique in the historic area of downtown Shakopee. She decided last week to sell both the building and the business.

"I had family stuff come up and had to choose," she said of the decision. "I picked family."

Richter will be moving about an hour north and said it would just be too difficult to continue running the business. She started it in 2010 after an extensive remodel of the building on Lewis Street, next to  and a dry cleaners. She also employs four people part-time.

"I'm pretty devastated," she said.

Ideally, she would like to sell the building, which is more than 2,500 square feet, and busines together – for $350,000. That price includes approximately $75,000 in inventory.

"I'm really just asking for what I put into it," Richter said.

Because the business is fairly new, she said there's a lot of potential for further success. Previously, the store was home to a women's clothing store that had been there for 37 years.

"I think the sky is the limit as far as growth," she said, referring to the fact that there's no nearby competition, at least for new women's clothing.

Richter was also getting involved in the community, including . She had recently joined the .

If possible, Richter has offered to show someone the ropes of the business as part of the sale, before she moves. And after all she's learned about running her own business, she hopes to do it again when she gets the chance.

"I would love to do something like this again," she said. "I love the store and the customers and the other businesses. It doesn't feel like work."
