Letter to the Editor: Police Catch Daughter Doing Something Right
Spicer: My daughter thought she was somehow in trouble.

This past Thursday, while my wife and I were out for our morning walk, my 7-year-old daughter decided to ride her bike with us.
A Shakopee police car pulled over and the officer rolled down his window and wanted to speak to us. My daughter thought she was somehow in trouble for riding her bike on the sidewalk.
To her amazement, the officer offered her a coupon for a free ice cream cone for wearing her bicycle helmet. She was so grateful and happy to have this nice gift for something she was doing right.

From a parent's perspective, talk about positive reinforcement. I can't tell you how many times she has now said something positive about the policeman who stopped and gave her an ice cream cone for having a helmet on.
Kudos to the for building good will in the community. My daughter has a whole new perspective on what the police do in our community now. Thank you Shakopee police department.
