Painted Lies Wins Minnesota Stallion Breeders’/North Central Derby

Painted Lies won the $17,500 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ and North Central Derby Saturday at .

The 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred quarter horse owned by Tom Maher and trained by Amber Blair held off a charge by Feature Dreamgirl to win by a neck covering 400 yards in 20.339 seconds.

Painted Lies, now a winner of five races and $108,833, recorded his first stakes win today.

“He’s improved a lot since last year,” Maher said. “He’s matured, filled-out, got a little taller and a little faster.”Cody Smith rode the winner who returned $3.00. Finishing third was Explosive Guns.
