Report: Shakopee is Third Best City in MN for Job Seekers

The city has a booming working-age population and a high median household income.

When it comes to cities that are good for working, Shakopee is the place to be.

The financial site NerdWallet ranked the city third on its list of “The Best Places in Minnesota for Job Seekers.”

NerdWallet determined the rankings by asking the following questions:

  1. Is the city growing? What was the growth in the working-age population, ages 16 and older, between 2009 and 2011? Was the city attracting workers and growing?
  2. Can you afford to live in the city comfortably? What is the city’s median household income? What are the monthly homeowner costs, including mortgage payments?
  3. Are most people employed? What is the unemployment rate?

Shakopee scored well because of a working age population that grew by 9.1 percent, as well as a high median household income of $78,028. Meanwhile, it had a low 4.5 percent unemployment rate and relatively low monthly homeowner costs of $1,789.

Woodbury ranked first on the list followed by Moorhead.
