How Much Do You Know About Shakopee?
Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes Shakopee so special.

Shakopee is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that Shakopee has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- Shakopee is rich in history, and one of the most interesting places to visit is the Minnesota Historical Society's Landing. This living history museum features 19th-century buildings and costumed interpreters who reenact the daily life of early settlers. Visitors can learn about how the Dakota and Ojibwe people lived, the fur trade era and much more.
- The City of Shakopee has a vibrant downtown area with plenty of shops, restaurants and entertainment options. You can stroll along the picturesque riverfront, check out the local breweries like Badger Hill Brewing Company or stop at the Downtown Shakopee Farmers Market.
- Shakopee is also home to the Canterbury Park racetrack and card casino, where you can catch live horse racing during the summer months and try your luck at the card tables year-round. The complex also hosts concerts and other events throughout the year.
- Did you know that the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, a federally recognized tribe, is located in Shakopee? The tribe operates the highly successful Mystic Lake Casino Hotel and Little Six Casino, which offer gaming, dining and entertainment options. The community also hosts the annual Wacipi Pow Wow, a colorful celebration of Native American culture and traditions.
- If you're a fan of craft beer, be sure to stop by Shakopee Brewhall. This local brewery and taproom offers a rotating selection of beers, as well as live music and other events.
