Severe Thunderstorm Watch, Warning, Flood Advisory Issued for Shakopee

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Shakopee, Scott County and the Twin Cities until 11:15 a.m.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN THE TWIN CITIES HAS ISSUED A * SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR... CARVER COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA... HENNEPIN COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA... NORTHWESTERN LE SUEUR COUNTY IN SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA... EASTERN MCLEOD COUNTY IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA... SCOTT COUNTY IN EAST CENTRAL MINNESOTA... NORTHEASTERN SIBLEY COUNTY IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA... SOUTHEASTERN WRIGHT COUNTY IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA... * UNTIL 1115 PM CDT * AT 1020 PM CDT...RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS... CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM ROCKFORD TO LESTER PRAIRIE TO NEW AUBURN...AND MOVING SOUTHEAST AT 35 MPH. PENNY SIZE HAIL MAY ALSO ACCOMPANY THESE DAMAGING WINDS.

At 10:08p.m., the NWS issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Shakopee and the Twin Cities until 1 a.m. Rain will affect east central Minnesota through at least midnight with rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour expected. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur, especially along small streams and near low water crossings, including highway underpasses. 

THe NWS cautions motors to not drive through areas where water covers the roadway.

New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible. 

On Monday, the forecast is for partly sunny skies, with a high near 88. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming northwest.
