Shakopee PD Assist in Jordan Standoff

Shakopee police were called to Jordan after a minor altercation in a local bar evolved into a five-hour standoff.

According to a recent report in the Pioneer Press, the incident started at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, after a bouncer at Brewer's bar escorted a belligerent patron out. Enraged, the man pulled out a handgun. In turn, the bouncer promptly tossed him over the hood of a car.

The suspect turned tail and ran, thus launching a five-hour manhunt that drew "swarms" of law enforcement to the sleepy town: In addition to Shakopee officers, squads from Burnsville, New Prague and the highway patrol assisted the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

The man is said to have barricaded himself in his parents' home nearby. Over the course of the night, he fired several shots.

No one was injured during the dramatic standoff, however.  

"The bomb squad was here, the SWAT team was here, there were about 30 squad cars," Resident Rachele Chrismer told the PiPress. Chismer took five families into her home after the street nearby was evacuated for safety reasons. "It was crazy."

The man finally surrendered around 3:45 a.m. Saturday. The Shakopee Valley News reported that the 24-year-old was taken to  in Shakopee for minor self-inflicted wounds, then booked into the Scott County Jail on suspicion of second-degree assault.
