Shakopee Property Owners Invited to Comment at City's 2012 Budget Hearing Tuesday

The public is invited to give input on the city of Shakopee's proposed 2012 budget and tax levy at a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 at .

Scott County recently issued statements showing how the city's proposed budget would affect property taxes and how proposed taxes for 2012 compare to those in 2011. 

The city's proposed tax levy for 2012 is $14,992,000 – a 2.4 percent increase over 2011. This amount could decrease before the final budget vote, but it cannot increase, according to city officials.

With the formula used to calculate city and county taxes changed by the Minnesota Legislature recently, property owners will likely see a greater variance in their taxes from 2011 to 2012. The amount of the difference will vary based on the property's classification and market value adjustments.

As of last week, City Administrator Mark McNeill said the city had gotten few calls from residents regarding the statements.
