Shutterfly To Close Shakopee Manufacturing Hub, 246 Affected

The digital photography company announced it will lay off 246 workers and close its Minnesota plant next summer.

SHAKOPEE, MN — Shutterfly, a digital photography company based out of California, has announced plans to close its manufacturing facility in Shakopee.

A total of 246 employees will be laid off, according to the company's letter to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Layoffs will take place in rounds beginning on Oct. 9 and continuing until the facility closes on June 28, 2024.

Employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. There are no trade implications, according to the state.

"Shutterfly announced that it will be closing its manufacturing facility in Shakopee, Minn. in June 2024. This decision was carefully considered as part of our strategy to strengthen our overall business operations and consolidate production into our larger manufacturing hub locations," the company told Patch in a statement.

"We fully recognize the impact this decision will have on our dedicated employees, their families, and the Shakopee community. While it was a difficult choice, we remain committed to supporting our employees during this transition. Over the next several months, we will work closely with all affected employees, providing support that includes outplacement services. We will also ensure that they have the opportunity to apply for open positions and receive relocation assistance, where applicable, to other Shutterfly manufacturing and production facilities."
